Wordflower kindly invited me to submit a longette – a topical poem with a 40-syllable title and 21 lines of 20 syllables each – plus a set rhyming pattern.

When the public square shrinks beneath the weight of fear and fragile power, yet rises again, phoenix-like, finding its voice, reversing the onus on the lawmakers
